Ping Pong: the typeface (and essence) of Conta Azul

Do you believe that my first job was in an accounting office? At 16, I spent a few weeks in my father’s office, summing stacks of printed invoices manually. It was the motivation necessary to make me look for an internship in my area, quickly

Twenty years later, who would say, I had the pleasure of working for Conta Azul, one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Brazil, simplifying the accounting management of already 800 thousand companies, including this one.

Invited by the studio Firmorama, we jointly modified the Margem font to create an exclusive version for the new visual universe of Conta Azul.

The emphasis was on increasing brand awareness at all points of contact, maintaining legibility, and having a proprietary look.

For this, the design of the letters’ f’, ‘t’ and ‘u’ has been simplified, while the letter ‘e’ has become softer, slightly more personal. As a striking point, the letter ‘g’ gained a distinct construction. These changes in key letterforms result in a different texture from the original, becoming exclusive to Conta Azul.

“We wanted the typeface to be a highlight of our visual universe. With this challenge, Firmorama brought Fabio to the project. In addition to his flexibility and that of the team, we also had a very quick return on the work that needed to be done. As a final result, we have a very functional, exclusive and cohesive font aligned to our brand strategy.” — Victor Zanini, Design Manager, Conta Azul

The name Ping Pong is a tribute to the gaming tables that have always been present in the Conta Azul office. According to them, a small reminder that the ride can also be fun! And I would add that it comes and goes.

Team: Fabio Haag (Creative Direction and Design), Henrique Beier (Engineering); Firmorama: Jackson Peixer and Vítor Scarpato; Conta Azul: Victor Zanini and Erica Fonseca.

Modified fonts conciliate in moderation the advantages of the retail fonts with those of the custom ones: a balance in the originality of the design, the investment cost and the development time. Let’s talk??
