Conversations in the sand

If we’re trying to solve a problem, trying can get in the way

RICK RUBIN

After a flight of 14 hours and 56 minutes, during which she faced strong winds, ice and mechanical problems, Earhart landed in a pasture in Culmore, Northern Ireland. When the farmer asked her, “Did you come flying from afar?” Amelia replied, “From America.”

Curiosa features an odd combination of formal elements — the tilted contrast axis is unusual in a sans-serif design. It is, shall we say, curious. And what is even more curious? It worked!

The asymmetrical terminals in letters like ‘c’ or ‘s’ bring grace, a gestural charm with a dash of irreverence. The tilted axis of the round letters reminds us of an old aesthetic, which originates in the calligraphic pen, but is grounded with a contemporary construction. It’s like a sans-serif with an attachment to nostalgia. Streaming on high-definition TV, it bursts into tears watching films from another generation. An apartment hippie with love for lost causes, but doesn’t break down because of it. Curiosa opens up to today’s world with versatility. Its charisma is contagious in large headlines, while being extremely readable even in the smallest sizes. It goes out on the street showing off its curious features, confident of itself, not ashamed of being what it is.

Those who are tired of the reign of geometric sans-serifs, but want something more casual than exuberant serifs, will find on Curiosa a friend for all hours.
